When the stress in our lives interferes with our ability to feel healthy, the Medical Symptom Reduction Program can work wonders. For more than 20 years, we have treated many hundreds of people who are either:

Experiencing medical problems caused or made worse by stress or
Suffering from chronic illness

The conditions we treat include asthma, headaches, insomnia, tinnitus, pain, anxiety, allergies, skin conditions, depression, and IBS and other gastrointestinal disorders. This program also is quite effective in increasing coping and improving symptoms of people living with chronic illnesses such as multiple sclerosis, lupus, and arthritis.

 | Understand how stress negatively affects physical and emotional health |
 | Reduce physical symptoms |
 | Accept and better cope with certain chronic conditions |
 | Regain a sense of control and well-being |
The program, led by a nurse practitioner with visits from our staff nutritionist, exercise therapist, and yoga teacher, combines lecture, skills training, symptom monitoring, and group sharing to equip patients to take an active role in managing their own health.
 | Elicitation of the relaxation response through techniques, such as diaphragmatic breathing and mindfulness |
 | Examination and reversal of negative thought patterns |
 | Physical movement, including stretching and yoga |
 | Healthy eating and other positive lifestyle behaviors |
 | Goal setting |
We think you'll find the group format especially beneficial; many of our patients stay connected to fellow group members after the program ends and some even return to retake the program and assist with subsequent groups.
A recent analysis of patient outcomes showed that more than 80% of our patients reported a decrease in frequency and intensity of physical symptoms and they continued to improve at six months post program.
