Lighten Up Program
LIGHTEN UP: WEIGHT MANAGEMENT
You want to lose weight…have more energy…take control of your health. Maybe you've tried diet fads and membership programs that just didn't work. Our unique mind/body approach pairs the latest science on weight gain with our 30+ years of success in helping patients adopt healthier ways to live.

Lighten Up is a multi-week outpatient treatment program designed to correct metabolism by teaching you lifestyle behaviors and attitudes that allow the body to move to its healthy weight without dieting. Unlike most weight loss centers, our team approach - staff includes program director, medical director, nutritionist, exercise physiotherapist, and yoga instructor - assures you individualized attention and instruction at each session.

Over 20 two-and-one-half hour sessions, we will help you:

Lose fat weight
Understand the relationship between weight gain and metabolism
Learn new ways of thinking to support positive change
Examine factors or situations (lifestyle, diet, stress or belief systems) that contribute to weight gain
Eat to live rather than live to eat.

Elements of our program include:

Elicitation of the relaxation response, a physical state of deep rest that allows the body to change physiology necessary for stable mood
Stress management techniques, such as diaphragmatic breathing, mindfulness, and imagery
Examination and reversal of negative thought patterns
Individualized nutrition plans and in-group discussion
Individualized exercise programs and on-site fitness training
Physician participation at every group session

We believe that you'll find the group format especially beneficial; many of our patients stay connected to fellow group members after the program ends and some even return to assist with subsequent groups.

If you cannot attend our weekly program, we also offer individual counseling/therapy visits.

Research demonstrates that obesity alters physical makeup in the same way as chronic illness. Unhealthy lifestyle habits trigger hormone imbalances that support weight gain. Mind/body approaches can improve brain chemistry, which stabilizes mood and normalizes weight.
